Happy 40th Birthday!

Posted by CBMA on December 23rd, 2011

Yes it’s true, I’m blessed and humbly grateful to be celebrating another birthday but more excited to be turning 40!  As much as I love celebrating the birth of others, I usually find myself on an emotional roller-coaster when it comes to my own.  Not to mention the fact of getting thru the holidays without my grandmother (who passed away the week of Thanksgiving when I was 18).

Each year I always find myself thinking on the story I was told of when I was born… for starters I was born 3 months pre-mature (and during those times that was severely critical, even today sometimes it still is) with an incubator as my home.  Can you imagine a newborn baby born under those conditions?  Not to mention hooked up to various machines & breathing tubes….oh my goodness!

Oh wait, and did I mention my mother was on 16?  I know too much information but here’s my point.  Although she had her family to see us thru and as the years come & gone God truly blessed us both along the way.  Even though I have two other siblings, it puts a smile on my heart to know that as I’ve grown I was lucky enough to witness first hand my mother not only graduate high school, but college (a bachelors, two masters and then a doctorate) and the most difficult time was when she was diagnosed with breast cancer, boy that was one scary journey.

So of course I know I’m get on my daughter’s nerves because I’m always sharing stories with her about my life before she was born…LOL!

I wish I could share with you more about my life story…hmmm maybe writing a book wouldn’t be a bad idea?  But year after year on my birthday I always take a few moments out of the day to reflect on what “could” have happened, what “should” have happened and what “did” happen all on a winter’s day 40 years ago; two days before Christmas!

Cincy Chic: A Made Up Destiny!

Posted by CBMA on September 21st, 2011

A few weeks ago Amy Scalia owner of Cincy Chic surprised me by asking if she & her team could interview me for their online-publication entitled “Women To Know”.  There were five of us all togehter and I truly felt honored to be one of them.  I even shared a few things about me many people may not have known.  Click HERE to read it…enjoy!

ps. yes that’s me in the photos above…LOL! That was truly a fun & exciting photo shoot, especially since I’m always behind a camera working vs. being in front of one striking a pose.  The photographer was playing Beyonce’s “Get Me Bodied”…can you tell!? LOL

2011 Emmy Awards: Lips & Lashes!

Posted by CBMA on September 19th, 2011

Did you see the 63rd annual 2011 Emmy Awards last night? …the pre-show especially! Seeing the red carpet interviews on awards shows is truly a hair, makeup and fashion stylists addiction. I always love the variety in every one’s style not matter the look…the good, the so-so and even the “that’s just wrong”.  I always seem to focus on the good in any situation.

The two key factor things (outside of everything else) in looking red carpet fabulous are LIPS & LASHES! And when you emphasize one one vs. the other talk about amazing!! It was truly hard to choose who I wanted to blog about the most but for some reason Kerry Washington (in red) & Evan Rachel Wood stood out to me the most.

To achieve Kerry’s fabulous lips & lashes, try these products:

- MAC Cosmetics: Individual False Lashes (variety pack) in “30 Lash” / $15 @ MAC

- NARS Cosmetics:  Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in “Cruella” / $24 @ Sephora

- Mally Beauty*: Volumizing Mascara in “Black” / $20 @ MallyBeauty.com

(HINT:  add a touch a lip balm over “Cruella” to give a slight sheen if the matte look isn’t your style & white eyeliner on the lower inner rim of the eyes only to make them appear a bit larger & brighter)

To achieve Evan Rachel’s fabulous lips & lashes, try these products:

- Yves Saint Laurent:  YSL Rouge Volupte silky lipstick in “Spicy Pink” / $34 @ Sephora

- Ardell: False lashes in “Wispies” / $4.49 @ SallyBeauty.com

- Maybelline*: Great Lash Washable Mascara in “Very Black” / $5.49 @ Walgreens.com

(HINT:  apply Mally Beauty “Lightwand Eye Brightener” in the inner corners of the eyes to brighten the eyes)

Before The Fun Begins!

Posted by CBMA on July 21st, 2011

As a makeup artist I’ve had the pleasure to try tons of products no matter the cost. And believe it or not some expensive brands aren’t as good as the inexpensive and visa versa.  It’s all in the ingredients.  But most importantly before applying any type of foundation you must cleanse, moisturize and today’s topic … “prime” the skin.  In order for your makeup (not just your foundation) to stay on longer a good primer must be applied before all the fun begins.

There’s many on the market but one of my top faves.  It’s by a friend of mine, yes your heard it right! And it’s called Mally Beauty “Porless Prep Primer” and it’s truly amazing (the pink collection shown above).  I actually massage this on the skin and clients practically fall asleep..LOL!!  And if you purchase it in the kit above you’ll receive her Face Defender (the first ever made clear powder) as well, in which I even talked about in The Knot magazine some months ago. Try it, you’ll fall in love!!

Beauty At Any Age!

Posted by CBMA on July 5th, 2011

I’ve been holding onto a little secret for months and my has it been hard.  LOL!  But I now get the opportunity to share it with you.

A few months ago celebrity photographer Stephanie Matthews (one who’ve I’ve wanted to work with for years) was in Columbus, OH and reached out to me because she was doing a beauty shoot for a magazine based out of Atlanta, Georgia.  Well as you can see, I jumped to the opportunity.  It was a fun filled day where it’s a beauty store on women of various age groups: 20′s, 30′s, 40′s & 50′s.  Myself and three other makeup artists were chosen an age group and mine was the 20′s (which made the headliner of the story).

In the magazine I listed the products that aided to creating a beautiful face for the model in the photo.  The magazine can be purchased online at Kouture Magazine or on stands WORLD-WIDE at your local Target, Barnes & Noble, Hudson News & Books A Million.

(Stephanie was also the photographer for actress Wendy Raquel Robinson shown on the cover)

Sneak Peak! (Teresha & Jamaal)

Posted by CBMA on May 5th, 2011

A few miles close to Lexington, Kentucky a wedding took place at the Cardome Center for Cincinnati Bengals Cheerleader Teresha Johnson & Jamaal Howard.  My don’t they make such a cute couple?

Teresha a.k.a “Baby T” is no stranger to makeup, and she said to me many years ago “whenever I get married you know I’m calling you right?” … well that she did.  She had me booked months before she even had a wedding location..LOL!  So of course a more glamours look was all she requested.

And you wouldn’t be able to tell but moments before Teresha got in the makeup chair she had a huge moment to just cry and release one last time.  So of course I cleared the room, closed the doors and let her have that moment.  We hugged, talked and hugged some more.  10 minutes she was happier than ever.  Laughing, talking and smooth jazz filled the air.  Talk about a lot going on in one room.

What a BenGal reunion…she even hired former cheerleader Kristie Bulach of Dolce Vita Photography in action who took these fabulous photos.  Click here to view more, but of course more will be added later.
