Laurel Court Mansion Wedding

Posted by CBMA on October 28th, 2009

This past summer I had the liberty in being the makeup artist for a wedding at Laurel Court Mansion in Cincinnati, Ohio.¬† I’m sure you’re asking yourself “Why?¬†¬†Couples get married their all the time.”¬† Glad you asked!

Mainly because the owners of this beautiful place used it for their lovely daughter Suzanne.¬†¬†I’ve blogged about Suzanne & Karim a few months ago (click here to read) but I’m so excited to share with you their wedding video by Take-One¬†Studio.¬†

Just Got Married!

Just Got Married!

I’m so happy and full of joy to express that today my best friend of 20 years just got married!

Sadly, I wasn’t able to make it because I’m with another bride this very moment (that’s the downfall in being in this industry).¬† Family,¬†friends, and my personal life sometimes have to take the back seat, and boy that’s not always easy for them to understand, and me for that matter.¬† But of course if I was there I’d probably being crying the entire time.¬† However, my daughter was in the wedding and my mother was their in the audience.

Tonya Childress & Stanley Davis tied the knot in Atlanta, GA at Hopewell Baptist Church and the wedding started at 2pm, with the reception immediately following.

Of course I couldn’t leave out the most important part…makeup!¬†¬†Stephanie Dawn Beauty was in motion and yes I made a special “surprise” beauty request for Stephanie to do on Tonya in¬†my absence… which was a hint of shimmer along her shoulders that followed by a comment from me: with a note that said “That’s from Chenese!¬† A little shimmer for the one who’s always put a glow in my heart” followed by an air kiss.

Thru the laughter, the tears, the disagreements and the smack down arguments Tonya will¬†always mean allot to me.¬† We’ve¬†cried together, worshipped together, argued like sisters and disagree like crazy, but all in all that’s my girl.¬† She’s seen me go thru so much in life with my own past personal issues in addition to family.¬† Plus she’s¬†my daughter’s God-Mother.¬† A¬†¬†BFF that I love like a sister.¬†

After all the years Tonya & I have discussed¬†the¬†good and the challenging areas of¬†being single, I’m so thankful that God has truly¬†blessed her to have a man like¬†Stan in her life.¬† Just to know that God didn’t withhold a good thing from her¬†and the tears she shed were only collected to then shower her with love in the end.

I love you T!   Welcome to the family Stan.

Making Over Momma!

Making Over Momma!Meet Lisa,¬†a mother in Cincinnati in the process of going thru a divorce!¬† Yes I know, I dropped¬†the “D” word on my¬†wedding makeup artist blog.¬† It’s a sad story¬†of course¬†and has taken it’s toll on Lisa and everyone in her family; including her husband.¬† So one day we were talking¬†on the phone and it hit me, bring her to the office.

So a few Saturdays ago¬†after I finished working on a wedding, I called her up and said “Let’s do makeup, and meet me at 7!”¬† There was nothing else said but “Okay”, and there were no questions.¬† And to be honest I didn’t think she’d show up and when I pulled up what did I see in the parking lot, Lisa¬†there early waiting for me.

Lisa’s makeup bag consists of: lip balm, black/brown mascara,¬†pressed powder, and old products I made her throw away.¬† She doesn’t get her¬†brows done¬†but maybe 2-3 times a year and has the one thing most¬†women have; that embarrassing facial hair.¬† So just by knowing that you can see where the transformation is going to be a¬†huge¬†360 for Lisa.¬†¬†

Making Over Momma!

I did two looks on Lisa, one a bit¬†natural for day (photo not shown), but she also needed¬†to see another beautiful side of herself..fun, sassy, sexy, and drop dead gorgeous.¬† Just to uplift her spirits a little.¬† So I opted for something on¬†the dramatic side.¬† A look she could wear¬†for going out, dinner, dancing,¬† even¬†to Christmas and¬†New Year’s Eve parties.¬†

So in the before photo above (vs. her facebook picture) you can see where I fixed¬†those¬†brows, removed facial hair and as you can see she’s beautiful even without makeup!¬† But I rolled out¬†my entire makeup kit for this, I even contoured her face & nose.¬†¬†¬†¬†We talked so much it was crazy along with¬†the music¬†bumpin’ and brushes movin’.¬† And the party didn’t end until 11pm.¬†

(as you can see¬†I’m no¬†photographer so pardon the bright flash..lol)

Purple Passion!

Purple Passion!

Boy was I in for a treat when I met Cristy’s family & bridal party!¬† We talked so much during makeup time it was unbelievable.¬† Even her dad joined in on the fun.

Purple Passion!

As far as Cristy’s makeup;¬†she wanted to look fresh and clean, with a sutle¬†smokey eye, not too dark and¬†dramatic though.¬† Wanting¬†her lips to be a bit darker than her own lip tone but not red.¬† As some brides do with the veil she had.¬† All the products I used other than airbrush foundation were¬†by Dior, Chanel & Mally Beauty… that’s it!¬†¬†In addition to my favorite shimmer brick by Bobbi Brown over top her blush and temples followed by¬†”liquid candle light” by Laura Gellar along her shoulders, decollete and back.¬† This girl glowed like nobody’s business.

Purple Passion!

Cristy even made her own jewelry in addition to the bridal party with a little help from Union Bead Boutique.  But the highlight of it all were the gorgeous bouquets by Katie Elfers in various shades of purple.

Purple Passion!

Michael Bambino Photography¬†was in the house full swing with photographers & videographers in motion.¬† Sam Hills of Salon Cherry Bomb did her hair but Cristy’s mother did the flower added to her veil.. so DIY!¬† For a moment I thought I was at a bridal ¬†magazine photo shoot,¬†fun & filled with excitement.¬†
